Chronic Illness
Our chronic illness treatment services at PHS include pediatric treatments for obesity, allergies, asthma, and eczema. We firmly believe that children suffering from any of these chronic medical conditions need to be a part of family life, social life, and educational and leisure activities, just like all other children. Therefore, we follow an individualized approach to care that addresses the physical and emotional needs of each child with a chronic illness. We also encourage parents and other caregivers to participate in our nutritional, family education, and psychological counseling sessions to ensure your child’s healthy transition back into the community.
Obesity
Whether your child is obese from overeating unhealthy food or because their genes cause weight gain, we understand your struggle and are here to help! To diagnose childhood obesity, we will first obtain a percentile ranking using your child’s Body Mass Index (BMI). Then, we will put together a childhood obesity treatment plan tailored to your child’s needs.
For long-term weight loss, our healthcare providers may prescribe certain lifestyle changes for your child, including increased physical activity and dietary improvements. In the process, we will keep supporting you to help your children make healthy food and lifestyle choices.
Allergies
We all can agree on one fact - childhood allergies are an unfortunate fact of life, especially in DFW metropolitan area. At PHS, we evaluate children with different kinds of allergies, including hives, hay fever, seasonal allergies, and reactions to certain vaccines and medicines.
We will try to get to the root cause of the allergy if possible, and create a highly personalized and effective allergy treatment plan for your child.
Asthma
Breathing may not be easy for some children with asthma. At PHS, we want to help your child breathe more easily, so we take pediatric asthma treatment seriously. While we recognize there is currently no cure for asthma, we can help you and your child with treatment and management of asthma.
Our team of healthcare providers is dedicated to designing a treatment plan that can allow your child to participate in all activities. The treatment plan may include various approaches, ranging from immunotherapy for asthma to environmental controls. To let us help you with managing and controlling chronic asthma in your child, please feel free to call us or request an appointment on our website.
Eczema
It can be challenging for you when your child has atopic eczema or atopic dermatitis, a chronic skin disease. They cannot always share when it is bothering them, and confronting the challenge over and over again can be frustrating, despite your best efforts to overcome the issue.
Remember, you are not alone! We will first ask you about your child’s health history and allergy symptoms, moving on to a physical examination, and then blood and skin tests, if required. Our mission with pediatric eczema treatment is to ease inflammation and itching and prevent infection.
