Diaper Rash

Diaper rash is a common issue where inflamed, irritated patches appear on your baby's bottom, thighs, and genitals. It's usually caused by prolonged exposure to wet or soiled diapers, skin sensitivity, or chafing.

To treat diaper rashes at home, make sure to change diapers frequently and keep the area clean and dry during diaper changes. You can also use a barrier cream or ointments like Desitin, A&D, or Dr. Smith's to protect the skin. Sometimes, letting your baby go without a diaper for a bit can help the skin breathe and heal as well.

When your little one has diarrhea, the skin in the diaper area can become more irritated due to frequent contact with loose stools. Rinsing their bottom with warm water during each change and using a gentle, alcohol-free wipe can help.

If the rash doesn't improve with these measures or if it develops red streaks, bleeding, or pustules, please call our office right away for an appointment. They can help identify if the rash is due to an infection or another condition and recommend appropriate treatment.

It's important to address any worsening symptoms to ensure your baby's comfort and health. Remember, taking preventive steps like changing diapers often and keeping the area clean can go a long way in avoiding diaper rashes altogether!
